iPhone Round-Up

January 10, 2007

Like many others, I’m lusting after the new iPhone. Luckily for me, I’m already a Cingular customer (for better or for worse) and my contract allows me to upgrade to a new phone as early as next month. It’s fairly obvious that I’ll be waiting until June to make that upgrade.

In keeping with the spirit of this awesome new product from Apple, Inc., I thought I would round up some of blog entries that came flowing through my newsreader this morning. I would have liked to link to what Robert Scoble about it, but he nary made a mention of it.

Mike Davidson: iPhone: SAND in Your Hand

You couldn’t think of it, and even if you did, your finished product would be a godamned fingerpainting compared to this. It is so fulfilling to watch technology unfold like this, in the hands of the most indispensable and world-changing CEO of our lifetime. It makes all other work you may be doing in the technology world seem like peanuts.

Blue Flavor: The iPhone Impact

Being intimately familiar with the difficulty of dealing with mobile service providers (aka carriers aka operators), Apple has done only what Apple could do. They strong armed carriers to bend to the will of what consumers want, not the other way around. This is a mobile first.

Kottke.org: The Apple iPhone

A lot of people are wondering just how big this thing is. Using the technical specs from apple.com, I grabbed some cardboard, scissors, and glue and made a scale model of the iPhone.

Manton Reece: You had me at scrolling

The iPhone is really inspirational in terms of UI design polish. You can tell they put some years into it.

Blogging Roller: Apple Apps Only?

So what’s the deal? Does Jupiter Research’s Michael Gartenberg, who says the iPhone is “not extensible by third parties, only Apple,” have the inside scoop?

There are of course many, many more people writing on this (some I linked to yesterday) and the chatter should continue for the next few days. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the iPhone in June and finally have a phone to use that doesn’t suck.
